Because We Can--Long Awaited Bon Jovi Single

January 7, 2013, 5:45 a.m., I sleepily roll out of bed and head downstairs to my computer.  After all, it was announced the day before, via Twitter, Facebook, and e-mail that Bon Jovi had a special surprise for their fans on bonjovi.com at 7:00 a.m. ET, which is 6:00 a.m. my (Chicago) time.  After logging on to bonjovi.com, I logged on to twitter to see the other brave souls were up early for the special "surprise."  Turns out, the whole world tuned in.  Literally.  I saw a friend tweeting, who lives in Oregon (4:00 a.m. her time), as well other fans in Europe and around the world tweeting that it was 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. their time.  And what was the surprise you ask?  We giddy fans were treated to listening to Bon Jovi's new single, "Because We Can," which was released on iTunes one hour later.

I would love to tell you that I stayed on twitter with the rest of the fans, but I was exhausted and went back to bed.  One hour later, I was much more myself and happily downloaded the song promptly at 7:00 a.m.

And how is the song?  In one word, awesome.  This is one toe-tapping and sing-along catchy rock anthem for sure.  "Because We Can" begins with Bon Jovi's vocals (the whole band) harmonizing the chorus with only the drums for accompaniment.  The song carries on with upbeat music that continues the groove established at the start.  With positive lyrics to boot, the song's quick rise on the charts is understandable.  Yes, friends, in no time at all the song reached number one in sales on iTunes for rock genre on the first day of it's release.

And do you think the excitement stopped there, friends?  No, it didn't!  Bon Jovi was very interactive with their fans this fan-tastic Monday (sorry, I couldn't resist) a trend I hope they continue. Throughout the day, Bon Jovi encouraged their fans on Twitter to retweet Bon Jovi's tweets in the hopes of winning a "prize pack."  To say the fans were in a frenzy could be the understatement of the year. Fans retweeted old and new tweets from the band in hopes of winning the coveted prize.  But, isn't that a big part of the fun--or novelty--of Twitter anyway?  The idea that you can communicate on-one-on with your "favorite star(s)."

And while I was not one of the lucky winners this time around, I'm still flying high on the heels of a surprise follow back by Bon Jovi on Friday!  I was commenting on how much I like their new artwork for the new single and remarking about how I had used the artwork to wallpaper my phone, when much to my surprise, they followed me back! HA!  How about that!

To top off the day, as a consolation to those of us who didn't win the prize, Bon Jovi posted a lyric video for "Because We Can." I am eagerly waiting the (I hope) announcement of a video with the band in it.

For now, I'll be happily singing with the new single while counting down the days until the release of Bon Jovi's new album, What About Now, due for release in March.  And of course, there's the Chicago show, for which I already have tickets.  I'm gearing up for a very memorable 2013 Bon Jovi year!
